FAQs

Have a question? You’re not alone. Here are some common questions clients ask before starting counselling.

  • Deciding to start counselling is a personal choice, and it’s completely normal to feel unsure at first. If you’re looking for support to understand yourself better, work through difficult emotions, make positive changes, or if you simply want a safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings, counselling might be a good fit. During our initial sessions, we’ll explore your needs together and see if this approach feels right for you.

  • Your free 20-minute consultation is a relaxed, no-pressure chat to help you decide if counselling feels right for you. It’s a chance for you to share a little about what’s been going on and what you’re hoping to get from therapy. I’ll explain how I work, answer any questions you might have, and together we can see if we’re a good fit. There’s no need to prepare or go into detail. The goal is simply to help you feel comfortable and informed before deciding whether to begin sessions.

  • It's important to find a qualified professional who aligns with your needs and goals. Finding the right counsellor is an important step in your journey.  I offer a complimentary 20-minute consultation so we can discuss your needs, explore whether therapy feels like the right fit for you, and determine how I may best support you.

GETTING STARTED

  • As an Integrative Counsellor, I don’t believe in a “one size fits all” approach. Everyone’s story is different, so I draw on a mix of counselling styles and techniques to find what works best for you. That might include person-centred talking therapy, practical tools from CBT, or mindfulness techniques. The focus is on helping you understand yourself better, build healthier coping skills, and find balance and wellbeing in your life.

  • Your first session is a chance for us to understand what’s bringing you to counselling. We’ll explore your reasons for seeking support, discuss your goals, and address any questions or concerns you might have. This session also gives you the opportunity to see if my approach feels like the right fit for you.

  • Counselling is most effective when it happens regularly. I usually recommend starting with weekly sessions as they provide continuity and support steady progress.

  • The length of therapy varies depending on individual needs and goals. Some clients benefit from a short series of sessions, while others find longer-term support more effective. We will work together to create a plan that best suits you. I often recommend an initial block of six sessions to get started, but you’re free to decide what works best for you.
